Although many of us enjoy bird watching, birds can become a nuisance in and around your property. Birds often nest in and around decks, dryer vents, kitchen vents, and openings in the soffit. The most common nuisance birds are pigeons, sparrows, and starlings. We can safely remove these birds, nesting material, and even their parasites from your property. We also repair damaged areas and install vent covers or other bird deterrents to keep the problem from happening in the future. All of our bird proofing work is guaranteed.

Nuisance birds are typically controlled in the following ways:

  • 1. Exclusion. Techniques typically include netting, screening, repairing damaged areas, securing vents and chimney caps.
  • 2. Deterrents. Deterrents include spikes, tripwires, bird gels, sonic/ultrasonic devices, and visual deterrents.
  • 3. Trapping. Birds that are indoors or birds that are not responding to deterrents may need to be live-trapped and physically removed from the area.
  • 4. Clean up and disposal. A professional should handle cleaning of bird droppings, as they can harbor numerous diseases. Methods of dropping removal include physical removal, power washing, HEPA vacuuming, and application of a bio-enzyme product to break down residual fecal matter.

Nuisance birds have been associated with many transmittable diseases, including: histoplasmosis, cryptococcosis, and salmonellosis to name a few. However, the most common problems associated with nuisance birds are the spread of parasites, fecal deposits, and noise. There are over 50 different types of ectoparasites that are associated with nuisance birds, and approximately two-thirds of them may be detrimental to the general health and well being of humans and domesticated animals. Once brought in by birds, these parasites can infest your property and bite humans.

If you find yourself dealing with nuisance birds, just contact us! We would be happy to discuss your situation and how we can help solve your problem. If needed, we will gladly schedule a visit to your property to perform a free estimate.

Sparrows

Typically, sparrows are small, plump, brown-grey birds with short tails and stubby beaks. There are over 40 different species of sparrow. However, differences between the species are often subtle. Sparrows are physically similar to other seed eating birds, such as finches. Although some can be agricultural or structural pests, sparrows can be beneficial to people by consuming nuisance insects. However, once they have nested in your property, you should promptly contact a professional for their removal.

Starlings

The Common Starling, known as the European Starling, is a medium-sized bird with glossy black plumage, that is speckled with white some times during the year. The legs are pink and the bill is black in winter and yellow in summer. Large flocks that are common in this species can be beneficial to agriculture through consumption of invertebrate pests. However, starlings can also be pests when they feed on fruit and growing crops. In urban areas, starlings are a nuisance through the noise, mess, and parasites associated with their large roosts.

Pigeons

Pigeons are perhaps the most common nuisance bird in the Chicago area. Pigeons typically cause issues because of the mess they make. They tend to congregate in the same locations and leave huge piles of fecal deposits behind. The fecal matter presents a serious health hazard and should be avoided. Pigeons like to nest on window sills, chimneys, gutters, scuppers, and decks just to name a few. Once nested, pigeons are notoriously difficult to deter. Our experienced technicians can assess the situation and advise you on the best combination of techniques to use in controlling these stubborn animals.

Removing rats or mice from your home or business is a two-step process. First, you need to get rid of the rodents that are living there. Second, you may need to take action to prevent new rats or mice from entering. If prevention of rodent entry is not addressed, you may find yourself in an endless cycle of baiting and trapping rats and mice as they continue to enter your property. Prevention is just as important as treatment to maintain a rodent-free property. Many pest control providers are only interested in removing rodents that are present and offer no help to prevent new rats or mice from coming in. However, Advanced Maintenance and Pest Solutions offers professional and guaranteed rodent proofing solutions for both small and large-scale projects.

Our Guarantee to fix the problem.

At every rat or mouse service call, we will perform an inspection of both the interior and exterior of the property. Based on the inspection, we may make recommendations regarding rodent proofing and/or other preventative measures. Sometimes, a new or better-fitting door sweep can help solve your problem. If rodent holes are located, often the solution is as simple as using galvanized hardware cloth and concrete to patch small holes that mice or rats are using as entryways. For larger projects, we utilize a full-time licensed contractor, and are capable of handling rodent proofing jobs of almost any size. We have a tremendous amount of experience when it comes to rat or mouse proofing, and of course, all of our rodent proofing work is guaranteed.
